Today, I’m going to share 10 AMAZING tips that will help you to increase traffic to your new blog. It’s fair to say that these tips will even work for an existing blog as well. By the end of this post, you will be empowered with some solid tips and ideas to increase your traffic to your new blog so be sure to read it all the way through. I have personally used these SAME tips to boost traffic to my main AUTHORITY niche site.  BTW if you are new to blogging and missed my previous post on What is Blogging, be sure to check it out.

So, you have a new blog and you’re really excited about it. So far you have told your significant other, your dog, and your Uncle Wally who nods as if he understands, but you aren’t quite sure.

You’ve already done some niche research, you’ve written down some solid keywords you should be targeting and you already have some articles in the bank. Every week you logon and you write a bit more and post a bit more but something isn’t quite right. You aren’t really sure and can’t quite put your finger on it. Then it hits you, like a ton of books…you need more traffic!

Don’t worry, the fact that you need more traffic shows that you’re hungry. You’ve still got some fight in you. You know you have what it takes to succeed but you just need some folks to start consuming your content.

You’re not alone, getting traffic to your site is something that every new blog struggles with. Today, we are going to focus on 10 proven ways that will guarantee you more traffic to your blog.

1. Phenomenal Keyword Research

So this is where you can really gain a lot of traction right away.  A lot of times we find ourselves so excited about the fact that we have a new blog or website that we want to just jump into the building, designing and creating content as quickly as possible. We want to flesh the site out immediately and run full speed ahead.

My advice here is to slow down a bit and make sure you really take the time to plan out your site. If you don’t, what you may find is that you are setting yourself back in terms of traffic and growth.

So, the way around this is to do phenomenal keyword research.  What I mean is, you want to take the time to really flesh out the direction you want your site to go, the topics you want to cover and then you want to start researching keywords.

Do some research on your competitors website to see what keywords are out there, brainstorm topics you want to cover, then you’ll want to go after what I call “low hanging fruit”. You’ll want to find those low competition keywords and long tailed keywords that will help you rank faster and easier.

If you skip this part you may find that your content is unintentionally targeting keywords that are hard to rank for which means less traffic for you and more time you’ll have to wait while your site gains authority.

One of the best tools out there for really solid keyword research is SEMRUSH.

SEMRUSH is a Search engine optimization tool that does your keyword research, tracks keywords used by your competitors, helps evaluate where your blog stands from an SEO standpoint, helps flesh out backlinking opportunities and so much more.

I strongly suggest you use a tool like this as it will give you an edge over the competition. When your site is new, you need any advantage you can get.

2. Consistent Content

Ok so, consistent content. This one is relatively important. When it comes to your blog you’ll want to create a schedule for yourself that allows you to put out blog content on a consistent basis. This frequency doesn’t have to be anything extreme like every day but you do want to have a schedule. So if you consistently produce content 4 times per month then make sure you do that.

You want to do this for two reasons. The first reason is from a search engine perspective. If google sees that you are posting new and fresh content on a consistent basis it’s algorithm will reward you for that. Google likes GOOD fresh content. Doing so will also allow for your content to rank faster in google as well.

The second reason is from a reader standpoint. If your goal on your blog is to pull back consistent readers that will consume your content, then you’ll want to come up with a decent schedule. A schedule that your readers will come to know. So if you post a new blog post every Tuesday, then those who follow your blog will know that every Tuesday they can expect something new from you. Your blog will always pull in new readers but there will always be some folks that come back for more each and every month. You’ll want to take advantage of that.

3. Social Media

Social media. It seems like an all-encompassing word when you think about it these days. But when it comes down to it, there are many ways that you can increase your traffic to your new blog via social media.

One of the first points that I will make is to make sure that your blog posts are shareable. That’s right, you know what I mean. When you have read an article and you have seen the twitter, facebook and Pinterest icons on blog posts that allow you to share the post in like one click.

Well that is what you want to make sure you have on your blog as well. This could lead to more readers and more visitors to your site number one. Number two, it can be a segway to your blog going viral as well.

While this isn’t something that happens very often, why not make it a possibility. So make sure that you add this to your blog. You can typically select this option on your blog’s template or you may need to download a plugin if you are using WordPress. Either way, it’s pretty easy to set up.

Also, if you haven’t already, you’ll want to set up social media accounts under your blog or business name. This way, you can share content to your following there as well. If you have a supportive group of folks on facebook for instance, you can also post your latest blog posts there as well. This will attract a few people you know and they might even share the posts with friends.

Pinterest is another place that you can turn to that will REALLY help you with growing your audience and building traffic. Not all niches are Pinterest friendly but if yours is, you can stand to gain a lot from Pinterest traffic through interesting and informative graphics, etc.

4. Guest Post

Yes, guest posting. Guest Posting itself is a huge topic so I’ll keep it short and brief here. Guest posting on another site in your niche can really go a long way to helping you increase your traffic to your new blog.

The main way that this can help is through gaining backlinks to your website or back to a particular post.

This of course is in addition to the potential traffic you will get from visitors on that site clicking the link and landing your your website.

Backlinks show google that your site has solid, relevant and valuable content that is so good, it’s worth linking to.

Be weary of sites asking for payments or fees in exchange for a guest post. I’m not a fan of paying for links but it’s up to you at the end of the day. Just make sure you do your research and determine if the link is valuable or not. More on this in another video.

5. Internal Links

Internal links. This is something that can increase your traffic to your new blog what seems almost overnight. After you have written a decent amount of content on your website you will want to go back and determine if your internal links are strong. I would advise that you keep this in mind as you create new content as it can be a pain to go back and try to link posts back together.

In case you aren’t why internal links are important I’ll give a brief explanation. Basically, Internal Links are invaluable from a SEO perspective. They help google learn your site architecture and help to spread “link juice” across your site.

This is a deep topic so I’ll make a seperate post on this later for you to check out.

But a brief example of internal linking is that if you have a blog post on the best mugs for new brides but you also have a post on the best mugs for grooms. In cases like this, you’ll want to find a way of mentioning the other article and linking to it within your article.

A plugin that I use on all of my WordPress sites is Linkwhisper. It saves so much time and finds relevant articles on your site and helps you quickly and easily link to them. If you have ever had to go back and try to link pages together you know how much of a pain it can be.

6. Improve CTR

This is another way to increase traffic to your new blog. You could have a really amazing article. You could even have that very same amazing article towards the top of Google Search results but you can find yourself not getting as much traffic as the Search results JUST below you or even the one below that.

The reason for this can be that your page description just isn’t MAKING people want to click on your site. This could be for a few reasons:

  1. You may need to improve your PAGE TITLES. You’ll want to try out several different
  2. Your URL that people see in SERPS may not be good enough. So make sure you have a good relevant URL for your blog post.
  3. You need to work on your META descriptions

It could be one of these things or all three. In any event, you will want to address this issue. You can keep a close eye on your CTR via your Google Search Console.

7. Awesome Images

Another way you can increase traffic to your new blog is by having really great images. Now of course you can find some really good images from stock photo websites but you can also take your own where appropriate.

Eye-catching, relevant images keep people on your page longer which is something that Google is looking for. If people spend a decent amount of time on your webpage without clicking away right away, this will have an impact on your bounce rate and the overall way that Google views your website. The longer people stay on your web page before clicking away tells Google that you have good content that is helpful for readers and is what they were searching for in the first place. This is what Google wants.

You can also take relevant photos and where appropriate, turn them into Pinterest or Instagram posts etc. Which will  also make your content more shareable and get it infront of more people.

8. Awesome Videos

Having awesome videos is closely related to having awesome images. But there is one difference. In many ways having great videos on your blog post is more powerful than a great image.

If you were thinking it has something to do with bounce rate and how long people stay on your website or blog post you would be correct.

Having relevant, captivating videos on your blog posts can go a long way in bringing value to your readers but also in making your site look more and more like a winner in Google’s eyes.

9. Site Speed

Improving your site speed can help you to increase traffic to your blog without a doubt. Your visitors aren’t going to wait around all day for your slow website to load. Instead, they will just hit the back button and go to the next web page in the SERPS.

You’ll want to keep an eye on your website speed and if it is slow you’ll want to get in under control right away. Google’s PageSpeed Insights tool will give you a really good idea of where you stand when it comes to site speed.

Check out your score and get on it right way. A lot of people get so obsessed about site speed they lose track of other important things like having good content and posting frequency. Don’t get obsessed with it but address it right away if your site is slow.

10. Build Backlinks

This is one of the BEST ways to increase traffic to your blog. Backlinks are a large topic as well so I’ll keep it simple in this blog post.

So as I said, one of the best ways to increase traffic to your new blog is by building links. For many site owners it can be one of the most challenging aspects of running a website or blog.

Link building is when you obtain links from other websites that link back to your own. In short, the more high quality links you have leading back to your website from relevant, respectable, authoritative, non spammy websites, the greater your site looks in the eyes of Google.

A simple way to put it is that backlinks are like a vote for your website. The more good ones you get the better.
